I failed climbing mountains for many different reasons: For bad weather, for avalanche risk, because I felt bad or had an injury ,for having problems at work before going, etc … but I never gave up summiting because the mountain exploded.
This weekend we had planned to make the top of Mount Etna (Sicily) on skis. Airline tickets reserved, Skis reviewed and all the material prepared … but three weeks ago the volcano entered I a strong eruption, leaving a spectacular rivers of lava on its slopes which, inevitably, removed snow from the mountain. Since then, although the area has recovered to normality, it has snowed very few, and also without having a enough base to allow us to do the mountain on skis.
So, as we have no intention of going to fry pork chops in Etna, we will postpone our target for next season.
