We just started the Costa Brava Xtrem Ultra Marathon, which will involve us to go running from Blanes to Port Bou in three days, going up the whole of the Costa Brava coastline just beside the sea.
Today we did the first stage, 25Km. with 1500m of ascent, and crossing really beautiful and very unprecedented places, even for someone who knows this coast. We passed through beautiful beaches, blue transparent and clear water, as I have rarely seen here, with almost no people on the beaches; a continuum of spectacular cliffs; and three botanical gardens specially opened for the occasion: "Mar i Murta","Pinya Rosa" and "Santa Clotilde". I’m quite happy, because despite having been lost for 10 minutes, I’m ranked 26th. up to 170 runners.
Tomorrow we will go from St. Feliu de Guixols to Estartit, in a 55km stage, and 2000 meters of ascent. Going through the fabulous Begur Cape, coming from Tamariu and Aiguablava, to proceed to Sa Riera and the long beach of Pals, having crossed above the magnificent Botanical Garden "Cap Roig"
On Sunday we will finish in Portbou, in a stage of the same Km and ascent of the second one (approx.)
For me this ultra means doing my particular celebrating for the first anniversary of summiting Mt.Everest. On Tuesday, 17th. it will be exactly one year that I was seeing the world from its highest point (8,848 meters), and 12 months later I am doing again a little challenge from ‘0’ feet … near home, in a great and magical place, and touching the sea. A total pleasure, because here I come only to enjoy, because we need to stay fit and do a big effort, but we do not really suffer and, above all, we don’t take any risk.
