After a year of intense work, we are already active in the ‘executive’ part of a new great adventure: Seabike expedition on the southwest coast of Greenland in total self-sufficiency.
Concept, project design, material, logistics, permits, equipment, sponsorship, communication, strategy and action plan. An adventure is a complete ‘Business Plan’, which has nothing to do with just doing sport. It includes sport in the final executive part, being a means to a much broader and more complex goal.
We are already settled in the small village of Narsaq, 50 metres from a sea full of icebergs. First day of acclimatisation, setting up the bikes and preparing the equipment.
Tomorrow the expedition really begins, which will take us to cross the southwest part of the largest island in the world, without any external assistance, totally autonomous, with the aim of discovering this exciting environment in an extreme and authentic way, to know and spread first-hand the effects of climate change in the area, and to record a documentary film to share this great experience.
We will try to reach Narsarmijit, the southernmost inhabited centre of Greenland. And depending on the conditions, we will consider the possibility of reaching Aappilattoq, the most remote village on the island.
4 expedition members who will do the route with the ‘ShillerBikes’ bicycles (David Espallargas, Pepe Ivars, Miguel Ángel Tobías and myself). And 4 members of the film crew (Lesmes Iglesias, Anna Sastre, José Egea and Álvaro García), who will locate us with a boat to be able to take high quality images without interfering in our adventure dynamics.
A few days of cold, uncertainty, effort, risk and tension await us. Perfect ingredients to feel alive, to connect humbly and passionately with a unique natural environment, and to live a fantastic adventure that we will share with all of you during (as far as we can) and after the expedition.
