A few days ago I completed the 60 kilometres of the “Ultra Clean Marathon”.

It would be nothing extraordinary for a normal Trail Running activity, but for me it was very special: It was 7 months since my serious accident in which I fractured 7 ribs, the supraspinatus tendon and the clavicle in two places; and I was admitted to the ICU for 10 days for having had a haemopneumothorax (blood and air in the lung) and haemopericarditis (blood in the cavity that surrounds the heart).

I was told that at my age it would be difficult for me to recover my pre-accident mobility and endurance, and

that in any case, it would not be until at least one or two years later that I would be able to practise sport with a certain degree of normality. On Sunday, when I crossed the finish line, I was very happy because in only 7 months I am already 95% recovered.

I am very clear that this rapid recovery has been possible because I took my injuries more as a challenge to overcome than as a problem to manage. My mission, my illusion and my energy were and are focused on recovering physically to the highest level I can. In fact, I want to take advantage of this setback, to recharge my batteries and commit myself even more, to reach a better physical level than before the accident, because with age it is easy to relax and stay in the excuse of “now it’s not time”, when the body still allows you to do a lot of things if you train it properly.

Now change the concept “Accident” for “Pandemic”, “Failure”, “Separation”, “Loss of job”, “Loss of a loved one”, “Economic problems”, Etc, Etc, Etc, Etc….

This applies to everything in life, both on a personal and professional level: we have to turn difficulties into challenges. This is the only way to connect with the positive vision, with confidence, with opportunities and with the illusion of achieving new goals from the circumstances we have.
