From may 21st , we are going to cross the Canary Islands by Mountain Bike in self-sufficient “Bikepacking” mode: with everything on our backs and minimalist equipment, without assistance and without a race or event organisation behind us.

All this in a project devised together with TwoNav, putting the design of the route and the use of GPS at the centre of the experience, with the aim of promoting free and sustainable adventure.  That is why we have called it “Gran Guanche Trip by TwoNav”.

The aim is to cross six islands of the Canary archipelago on tracks and trails, through the most emblematic and special places, to discover a unique environment that seems to represent every corner of the planet: volcanic landscapes, dune and lava areas, tropical canyons, pine forests, jungle parts, white sandy beaches, very high peaks and desert areas.

A complete menu of landscapes and emotions in the crossing of La Graciosa, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma.

800 kilometres with around 20,000 metres of positive height gain in 12 stages, connecting each island by ferry, and alternating accommodation with bivouac nights.

Beyond the fun and sport, it is a project totally committed to sustainability in all its aspects.  The activity is pure cycling and, therefore, zero emissions and minimal impact.  Transfers to the Canary Islands and between islands are unavoidable, and we have a programme for calculating and offsetting emissions through “Cero CO2”.  And we will use communication to disseminate sustainability values, attitudes related to responsible sport and key environmental factors of the environments we are going to ride through.

This trip is inspired by “La Gran Guanche”, a similar route that is done in competitive Non Stop mode.  But our philosophy is self-sufficiency, independence and, above all, discovering territories, landscapes and towns based on a challenge and a very sporty and demanding pace, but that allows us to flow as events come and go.  And to do it all during the day light so as not to miss a millimetre of the views and the full experience of this adventure.

The team will be made up of 4 cyclists with whom we have already shared many special routes: Arcadi Romera, David López, Miquel Noguera and Albert Bosch.

We have designed the tracks with TwoNav’s LAND software, and for the crossing we will use two TERRA and two CROSS GPS models.

TwoNav’s claim is “Freedom to Discover”, and here we have taken it seriously, because we are going to get into action to discover these magical islands in complete freedom, and total commitment to sustainability.
